Force
85% fewer generator hours at an off-grid construction site in Dublin, Ireland
A Neargrid FORCE 120 supplies power to a 12-metric-ton tower crane and the construction site equipment of Allen Cranes Limited at a construction site without a grid connection.
Allen Cranes is one of Ireland’s leading crane companies. It is active on major construction projects in Dublin and beyond, serving clients such as John Sisk & Sons, Cairn Homes, and Glenveagh Properties. Due to the strong growth in construction activity in the region, more and more construction sites are starting up before a grid connection is available. Cranes and construction site equipment there were powered by large diesel generators that ran continuously throughout the workday. This resulted in high fuel and maintenance costs, noise, and CO₂ emissions. They were therefore looking for a partner that could provide reliable power for a 12-metric-ton tower crane without a grid connection, and that would significantly reduce diesel consumption and generator operating hours.
Project details
Client: Allen Cranes Limited Location: Dublin, Ireland
System: Neargrid FORCE 120
Application: 12-metric-ton tower crane and construction site equipment
Challenge
The construction site had no power connection. To power the tower crane and the site equipment, a 200 kVA diesel generator was used. It ran continuously throughout the workday.
Previously: 200 kVA, ±20 generator hours per 2 workdays
Solution
Neargrid installed a FORCE 120. A 100 kVA generator and the Neargrid battery now work together to provide the necessary power. The generator now starts only to recharge the battery.
The battery will be the heart of the power supply at the construction site. The generator will be the charging source.
Result
Current: 100 kVA + Neargrid, ±3 generator hours per 2 workdays
- 85% fewer generator hours
- ±255 liters of diesel saved per 2 workdays
- Lower fuel and maintenance costs, less wear and tear on the generator
- Reliable power 24/7, even when the generator is off
- A stable and continuous power supply for the crane and construction site equipment
- Less noise and fewer CO₂ emissions
Smaller generator. 85% fewer operating hours. Reliable power 24/7.
